The Art of Recommending

The exhibition “The Art of Recommending in Times of Accelerated Culture” is an artistic reflection on making everyday choices in a culture of excess.

“THE ART OF RECOMMENDING in times of accelerated culture” is an artistic project exploring the potential of the gesture of recommending. The project proposes the intriguing thesis that recommending can be a true art, accessible to all.

The final exhibition, preceded by several months of workshops, field activities, and an Open Call, took place during the WUD Silesia CITY OF KNOWLEDGE festival, in the gallery space of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice at 50 Raciborska Street.

As part of the project, the curatorial team and the projects selected in the competition explored issues such as:

• Can practicing the art of recommending provide a response to the contemporary overproduction of content and blurred points of reference in relation to culture?
• Do we, by using creative processing in communication, bring new quality to the techniques of selecting information and producing new knowledge?
• And most importantly, is the art of recommending an art that brings us closer together?

The exhibition brought together works by over 40 artists invited to participate in the project. Paintings, graphics, sculptures, installations, publications, and zines were objects of reflection for the artists on selected aspects of “fast-paced culture.” These personally selected aspects of reality are recommendations for which the authors believe it’s worth slowing down for a moment, or even stopping.
